The Visor. 

The Visor is the tool that allows to consent and to visualize the contents of the magazine. This tool needs to be connected Internet (in a similar way to a navigator for Internet), since the contents never stay in the reader's PC and they should be recovered of the servant every time that you will be visualized. But if, for example, a commented game is studying, it is only necessary to be connected in the moment to "open it", then, one can work with her without necessity of staying connected.

Once installed the application, the outline of use of this tool is the following one:

  1. To press the button to Connect. A menu will be shown with the different services of contents, the option will initially only appear it "Has":

    When making clip on option, the application is it will connect with the servant in Internet to request the last number of the magazine. This number will show up in an emergent window.

  2. The reader selects it, marking it before in the list mentioned and pressing the button OK of the window.
  3. The application retires the emergent window and it shows, in the inferior part of the screen, the list with the different Contents of the copy.

  4. The reader will be able to consent to each Element, making click on the line corresponding of the previous list.

Installation.

Standard versions.

Press aquípara to discharge the file of installation of The Visor.

Once downloaded the file is decompressed and the program setup is executed.exe that will arise of the decompression.

Versions 3D.

Besides the previous version, it exists other that is identical with the one added that it can visualize the board in 3D.

Before installing this version 3D, it is necessary to have installed the appropriate version of DirectX of Microsoft. Not it serves any version of DirectX, it should be exactly a certain one, but this is not a problem because in oneself PC several versions DirectX can be had without they interfere among them. To install the version necessary DirectX, it is necessary to discharge the file instaladx.zip, to decompress it and to execute the program DXSETUP.exe that will arise of the decompression (to see details here).

The board you can rotate making click with the mouse in any point of the screen and dragging the mouse in an or another address. The size of the board you can change, modifying the size of the window that contains it, dragging their borders, or by means of the control bellboys located in the superior right vertex of the window: to minimize, to restore or to maximize.


Use.

The functions of the different bellboys, of the bar of tools of this application, are the following ones:

Page Beginning. It shows the page with news and information of the application. He needs Internet connection.

To connect. It looks for in the servant the last number of the magazine. It is necessary to be connected to Internet.

Previous Numbers. This button is only visible when there is loaded a number of the magazine. When pressing it the previous Numbers they are shown. It is necessary to be connected to Internet.

Reproduction in local way.

He allows to obtain the contents to visualize directly of the hard disk of the PC. For this procedure one can read a file with chess games in format PGN, or a page HTML. Not he needs Internet connection. Under the board a list will be shown with the games contained in the file PGN, to see anyone of them, alone it is necessary to make click with the mouse, on the corresponding line.

The list of games you can order for anyone of their columns making click with the mouse on the head of anyone of them. If one makes click, with the right button, the cursor moves, inside the list, until the first line that contains a fact different to the at the moment selected inside the column on which the click was made. For example, if the list contains the games of several tournaments (Event), when making click with the right button in the head of the column "Event", we will pass directly to the first game of the following one I lathe and so forth.

Access to a Database (BDD) of games. One opens up windowauxiliary in the one that to select a BDD and to select games of the same one, or to look for a position.

Units in study. When it is inscribed in one, or several courses, it shows the lessons that we have active in each course.

Auxiliary Board. He opens an auxiliary window with a board in which can move the pieces freely, dragging them with the mouse, or to locate any position for their rational analysis or by means of motors (calculation modules).

It is possible to open up, simultaneously, up to 4 auxiliary boards. This board allows to move the pieces freely, as if of a board mural it will be, to be able to analyze any position comfortably. When opening up, it will show the same position that the main board.

To locate a piece in the board it selects it to him in the left part of the window (making click on her) and next click is made with the right button of the mouse on the stall where it is wanted to locate it.To move a piece, coarse to drag it with the mouse.

To return to the position in which the board opened up, he presses the button beginning, located in the superior-left vertex of this window.

The analysis of positions and games, by means of calculation "motors", he is carried out from this window, like it is described in the chapter corresponding of this document.

Disposition of the list of Elements. This button changes the disposition of the list of Elements, or games. Alternating among occupying the whole width of the inferior part of the window and only the part under the board. When it occupies the whole width of the window it shows more columns of data, that which is interesting if you opens up a file PGN with several games, on the contrary, if it is about a number of the magazine it is preferable to use the way "under the board" that will usually show the same information and he leaves free more space for the document.

Clock. He opens a window with a clock that the student can use like reference during his work.

To print. It generates a report for their impression (it can also stay in a file) of the Element that is visualizing. In the case of the Elements that you are left commented, the report can contain as many diagrams as they love each other, corresponding to the main line or to any variant. To mark the reports to include, before activating this option, click is made with the right button of the mouse on the play after which is wanted to include a diagram, the play it will be framed in green, or magenta if it is the play in course (that it is what happens when marking it). To eliminate all the diagram marks, it becomes double click with the mouse in an area in white of the canvas where the game is shown.

To Visualize / Hide. This button is only shown when it is visualized certain types of games that expressly have been defined to hide a part of the same ones. When pressing it it is revealed, or it hides, alternatingly the corresponding text.

Game of pieces. Pressing this button the game of pieces is changed, rotating among the three available types: Merida / Count / InterAjedrez.

To change the size of the source. To each pulsation of this button, the size of the letter is increased, when it overcomes certain size, it returns to the smallest. He only has effect in the commented games.

To configure options. It allows to introduce user's data and key that are indispensable to consent to the servant of contents.

The bellboys allow to keep, or to read, a file with all the options, included the definitions of motors carried out through the option. This possibility is specially useful for the upgrade of versions. When he settles a new version of The Visor, all the options take the "factory" values again and the registrations of motors disappear. For not having introduce again, one for a, all the options, before installing the new version of The Visor, stay in a file by means of the button and after installing the new Finder, they recover by means of the button.

To register calculation (motors) modules. Option is the window that allows to indicate to the application the path opens up where to find the calculation modules and to specify the work options with those that are wanted to make work:

 

Without use in the current version.

Board 3D. This button believes a new window that initially is superimposed to the area occupied by the normal board, but that it can be changed location and size to will. In this new window the board is shown in three dimensions with quality "fotorealista." If one makes click, with the left button of the mouse, on a point anyone of this window and the mouse crawls, without loosing the button, horizontally or vertically, the board rotates on an axis or another. If one makes click with the right button and he crawls up and down, the board takes away from our point of view and if of below up, he comes closer.

The presentation 3D you can configure by means of the two bellboys that you are shown in the window 3D, the first it allows to define the characteristics of the illumination and the second the color and shine of the pieces. Likewise, in the configuration data, to those that you consents by means of the button to "Configure options" of the bar of tools, three relating options are included to the environment 3D

  • Texturas++. When this option is activated he improves the presentation of the board, it doesn't affect to the pieces. For teams not very modern, it could be necessary to disable it.

  • Quality. This option can take a value from 0 to 3, the maximum presentation quality is gotten with the value 3 but he needs a PC with a great calculation power and a graphic modern card and with enough memory RAM. The value 2 produce a quality of very similar image at 3 o'clock but they decrease the requirements of the PC considerably. The option 1 also produce acceptable images, but the option 0 it produces an evident loss of quality. If it is selected the options 0 at 2, the change in the normal way to that of view 3D, it won't be made since in an immediate way the process of simplification of the pieces it requires of many calculations, the more it is necessary to simplify that is the case 0.

  • HWD. If the graphic card of the PC has calculation capacities 3D incorporate and the value is selected "If" of this option, it is very probable that the quality and yield improves substantially, nevertheless for low values of quality (0 and 1) it can end up being preferable to "Not" mark the, anyway it suits to prove with both possibilities to see the answer of each team. Videotape. This button is shown, in the right part of the bar of tools, when a game, or exercise, goes accompanied by a videotape with explanations. When pressing this button, a window opens up under the board, or in the superior-right part of the screen, depending on the size of the videotape and it begins the discharge and reproduction of the videotape. It is necessary to be connected to Internet and the first time that it is visualized he will be necessary to wait to that the video (at least, a part of the same one) is downloaded, so that the reproduction begins, in successive occasions it won't be necessary because it will be stored in the "cache" of the PC.

To refresh page. This button is shown in the right part of the bar of tools and he only appears when The Visor is showing a page HTML. When pressing it he "refreshes" the content of the page, in a similar way to like he makes the navigator of Internet, I save in the following cases: if the solution is visualizing to an exercise or form, when pressing this button he recovers the exercise, or the form that you gave place to this page; if the page of the "file" is visualizing, the Element is shown that is visualizing when requesting the file.

File. This button, in the right part of the bar of tools, is only visible when there is loaded a number of the magazine. When pressing it, a chart is shown with the qualifications obtained in the exercises and problems, as well as the editor's annotations and the time of reading used in each one of the Elements.

Other functions.

  • Size of the board. These bellboys allow to increase or to diminish the size of the board.

  • To keep position. In any moment it is possible to keep in the clipboard (to copy) an image of the board, or the code in format FEN of the position on the same one, making click with the right button of the mouse in any point of the board. With this click he spreads a contextual menu with these two options.

  • He presses on the option that is wanted and then it can "stick" the content of the clipboard in another application, as Word or ChessBase.

  • To rotate the board. The Button, located in the inferior-left vertex of the board allows to invest the situation of the pieces, placing the white pieces in the superior part of the board.

  • Coordinated. Making double cilc with the mouse in the mark of the board hides or they visualize the coordinates, alternatingly.

  • The wheel of the mouse. When one of the bellboys, located under the board that you allow to move for the game, the wheel of the mouse is selected (for example, because we have made click on him) it allows to advance, or to go back movements according to the sense in which we make it rotate.


Motors or calculation modules.

The motors, or chess "engines", is programs to analyze chess positions. These applications valued the different plays that it is possible to carry out, by means of the analysis of the different variants that arise of each one of them until a certain depth. They are the base of the programs that you play chess.

Multitude of motors exists, commercial (that it is necessary to buy) and of free (gratuitous) use. The commercial ones are the most potent (Shredder, Fritz, etc), but gratuitous motors of a similar (Gown, Ruffian, Arasan, etc) force exist, although they don't offer so many options like the commercial ones and the graphic interface is usually very inferior, or nonexistent, they are perfect for its use with The Visor.

So that The Visor can use a motor, this it should be compatible with Universal Chess Interface (ICU), for example:

To use a motor with The Visor, the first step is to "register it" in The Visor by means of the option calculation (Motors)" "Modules that opens the way to a window in which it is necessary to specify the path that leads to the executable file of the motor. Once specified that path, incorporates, automatically, the motor to the list of motors and the options are shown that said module allows to change, in a first moment, the values can be left by defect of these options and simply to press the button "OK" to make effective the high one.

The analysis of a position or game, with some of the "registered" motors, are made from the auxiliary board or "slate".

It is only necessary to select the motor, of the list desplegable located in the superior part of this window, and to press the button (to Begin the calculation module), next the analysis in an indefinite way will begin. So that the analysis only takes place until a certain depth, this fact (the number of movements) is written in the stall located to the right of the rótulo "Prof.", in the superior part and to the right of the window, before beginning the calculation. It is also possible to limit the time of calculation introducing a value in seconds in the labeled stall "Segs." If it is specified, at the same time, a time and a depth, have preference the time. To stop the calculations, in any moment, it is only necessary to press the button.

If in a given position, it is only wanted to analyze a play, this play is written, in coordinated notación (stall final initial-stall, for example: C4d4) in the stall under the "Played rótulo / s." Not all the modules accept this possibility.

In the inferior part of the window the information of the analysis is shown.

In the first line, of left to right:

  • 16 search depth.

  • 41 extended (up to where it arrives in the variants with captures and checks) depth

In the second line it shows the opposing best variant until the moment, preceded of the valuation of the same (0,15) one. The valuation is always made from the point of view from the decree to which plays him/her to move, therefore, a positive valuation means advantage from the decree to which plays him/her to move.

In third o'clock and quarter lines are shown the second and third better variants, this line only appears if the motor accepts this possibility and a value has been specified, of 2 or 3, for the option multipv. Value superiors at 3 they won't be useful, because more lines won't be shown and they can ralentizar the calculations.

When the calculations end, or they stop, the most outstanding values in the information are shown and they are added the bellboys that you allow to reproduce in the board the main line and the second and third variant. The first button, alternating among the calculated lines.

The button to "Copy", he keeps in the clipboard (clipboard) the shown variants, in that moment.

To analyze a game, or it leaves of the same one, the corresponding data settle down and he presses the button

The analysis will be made dedicating, to each play, the time that the stall "Segs" has been specified, or until the depth indicated in "Prof.", if anything is not indicated for none of these two stalls, a time of 5 seconds will be used by play.

To the left of the window, the options "v" and "p" are shown, when they are marked, in the result of the analysis the valuation of the position will be included after each carried out play and the depth of the carried out calculation, respectively.

By means of the stalls 2y 3:

The first and last movement are specified to analyze, if they are left in target it will be from the first to the last.

The stall 1, to the right of "Df", he allows to settle down which is the minimum (in centipeones, 100=1 peon) valuation that is considered significant so that the application includes a variant in the analysis. If when being analyzed he finds a play different to what was really made and the difference in the value of the position is bigger than Df, the application will include, in the result of the analysis, that play like a better variant, in another case, it will ignore it. A normal value, for "Df", is 50.

When analyzing a game, the same time is used or you arrives to the same calculation depth, for all the plays, unless the stall "r" has been marked:

If the stall "r" is marked, every time that the module finds a play that is better than that really carried out one and the improvement in the valuation of the position is superior to that settled down in "Df", he will carry out a deeper calculation, dedicating the triple of the established time or until a depth of two more movements, as he has settled down that the analysis is made by time or depth of the position.

When a game is analyzed, the window opens up:

In the superior part the valuation is shown that the motor makes of the position after each play. The positive values - in blue color - they correspond to advantage of the white ones, when they are the quarter notes those that have advantage, the valuation it is represented by means of negative values of red color. The white plays are shown with clear tones and those of the black one with a darker tone.

The inferior part of the graph represents the errors, calculated as the difference among the value that one has been obtained of having been carried out the best play and the value of the carried out play. Placing the mouse on any element of the graph the exact value of this element will be shown.

The first of the two small bellboys, of the superior-left part of this window, allow to record in a file the graph, there are several available formats (BMP, GIF, JPG) and one of text (TXT) that keeps a list with three columns: the play number, the valuation of the position and the value of the error.

The other button, changes the size of the window that can also modify crawling with the mouse the borders of the same one.

If he closes this window and he wants to open up again, he presses the button, located in the bar of tools of the slate.


Access to the Postal Rooms.

The Visor can read the games of the postal rooms directly SP3 and SP4. It visualizes and it reproduces this games but he doesn't allow to carry out movements.

To consent to a Postal Room, him first, are to give of high the service by means of the button to Configure options. The lash "Sp" is selected and they are given of high the services that it is wanted.

The Visor has preconfigurados a series of services, but they can be given of low if it is wanted this way.

To recover games of a Postal Room he presses the button of bar of tools of the application

The service of the list superior desplegable is selected, the data of the diverse fields are introduced that they will select the group of games to recover of the postal room and he presses the button.

If he presses the button they recover all those given birth to, finished or in course, of the player with Nick registered in the configuration of the Postal room.

The obtained games are shown in the list located under the board. The columns of the list are the same ones that it shows the access applet to the postal rooms from the Navigator of Internet.

The characteristics of the game, in relation to the control of the time, and the situation for both decrees appear as comments to the beginning of the game.

Access to the Online Rooms.

To go to the room of online Game the button of the main bar of tools of The Visor it is used. But before making it. it suits to configure our access data: badge (Nick) and key. These data are introduced by means of the option to Configure options. When pulsing in this button of the bar of tools of The Visor, the configuration portfolio opens up and we press the second lash "Sj":

The configuration record Sj contains enough data, but the normal thing is that we don't need to know more than our Nick and our Key, those that figure in the inferior part of the record.

Of it manufactures, he comes registered the "Visiting" access profile. In this profile, we can modify the stalls of Key (substituting them for our data) Nicky and next to press the button "Discharge", when making it, let us be believed a new access profile that then will be able to use to connect us to the Online Room. This window has its own bar of tools. The first button of the same one, is the one of connecting, when pressing it, he spreads a list with the different access profiles that we have registered:

We make click on the profile that we want to use and the connection will take place to the Online room.

Departures 3D. The version 3D of The Visor allow to see and to play the games in the board of three dimensions. In the board 3D the pieces cannot crawl with the mouse, to carry out a movement in this board, click (with the mouse) is made on the stall in which the piece is located to move and then another click on the stall to which wants to move.

The board you can rotate making click with the mouse in any point of the screen and dragging the mouse in an or another address. If he makes click with the right button and he crawls he made up or down, the board comes closer or he goes away. The size of the board you can change, modifying the size of the window that contains it, dragging their borders, or by means of the control bellboys located in the superior right vertex of the window: to minimize, to restore or to maximize.

Chat. To avoid that the diverse incidences in the game (messages of the system, players' entrance / exit) room interrupt the action of writing in the chat, when there is some character in the area where the comments are written, a blockade is activated that doesn't allow to carry out some actions. Coarse to erase that written in the area of comments, so that all the possibilities are available again. Every time that a movement takes place in the game, the slate will reflect the change in the position and the calculation module will analyze the new position. The difference between the first and second button, is that when he has pressed the first, the analyses they are sent to the servant and they are seen by all the present people in the board (with independence of the application with the one that you are connected), while if he pressed the second button, the analyses they are only seen by the person that is executing the calculation module.

The valuations of the module go showing up every time that finds a better variant, or the module increases the calculation depth, to avoid that these valuations are sent with too much frequency, it can settle down a minimum time to lapse between the presentation of a value and the following one, this time is specified (in seconds) in the stall located to the right of these two bellboys:

 

To use the first button that shows the valuations to all the present, it is necessary to introduce a key that is only available for the Administrator and operators of the system. None of these two analysis bellboys will be available, if we are one of the players that dispute the game that is playing in that moment.

In the superior right vertex of the slate the button is shown:

and starting from this moment, the slate will always stay in the first plan of the screen, above other windows or applications.


Communication PC to PC. This option is only available starting from the version 1.5.0.0 of The Visor.

It allows to connect two PC through Internet knowing IP of both. Also, he allows to only work with a PC (local way), this way it becomes visible the bar of tools that allows to establish any position on the board, to draw arrows, marks, to exchange files, etc, that which is specially useful for presentations in public, in a local or remote way.

When the PC is connected, the performances on one of the boards will be reflected on the other one. This modality PC to PC, has a "chat" that allows to exchange text between both PC, he also allows to converse personally. Another possibility is to use, in a parallel way, an application that allows the communication mediating voice (or text) between both PC, like it can be Messanger, or Skype , both gratuitous ones and of very good quality. To activate the conversation "chat", he presses the button.

When he presses the button, of the bar of tools of The Visor, the window opens up:

One of the two PC, acts as Servant and the other one as Client, from the operative point of view it is indifferent to be Client or Servant, the functions are exactly the same ones. The difference is the form in that the connection settles down. The PC that will act as Servant should be the first in attempting the connection, the stalls Internet and Servant are marked and he presses the Button OK, at this time he retires the window and in the bar of tools the sentence appears "Waiting client." Now, the PC that will act as client, marks: Internet and Client, with that that the stall Remote IP will be enabled, here it is necessary to write IP of the PC Servant. In the right part, inferior line, of the bar of tools the icon of the tool is shown selected in each moment, for example: in the previous image, the tool to "compose."

Some of the actions included in the bar of tools, are not really a tool and when they are selected they don't affect to the active tool, for example: to locate the initial position, to show the clock, etc. These options carry out a concrete and punctual task. The tools, properly this, are selected to carry out repetitive operations, for example: to draw lines, to put piece, to remove piece, etc and for that reason they "remain active" until another different tool is selected. 

The button, of the main bar of tools of the application, closes the connection PC to PC.

Remote IP. The PC that will act as Servant shows a value of own IP that can be the address real IP of the PC in Internet, or an address local IP that is not the one that the PC shows in Internet. Him first happen, usually, in the connection direct mediating modem to the phone line and him second when the PC consents to Internet from a net or a router that it is the case of the connections ADSL. The PC that will act as Client needs to write in remote IP, the real address of the PC Servant. Therefore, when the Servant shows a local IP it is necessary to obtain real IP for another procedure, one simple it is to connect, the PC Servant, to the Room of Online game and IP that is shown when entering in the game room, to score for example:

S: Accepted connection.

In this case, real IP of the PC Servant is 213.97.182.213, being this address the one that should write the PC Client like Remote IP.

Another important aspect is the necessity that the PC servant accepts incoming connections in the port that has been specified in the stall Port (necessarily, the same one in both PC). If the servant is connected by means of modem to the phone line is probable that the access not of problems, but in another type of connections, just as ADSL, the normal thing is that incoming connections are not accepted, in this case it is necessary to change the configuration of the router. The different router models are configured in a different way, but the general procedure can be the following one:

1. By means of the navigator of internet, as the Internet Explorer, it is necessary to be connected to the page of configuration of the router, for example, connecting http://192.168.1.1/

2. In the septup area, to look for the option NAT that will drive to a series of options, of those that "SUA is usually activated Only."

In these moments, there are available four books of openings for The Visor:

  • ECHO. It contains the 4.037 positions of the ECHO. To discharge here. Not to confuse the book ECHO with the file PGN before mentioned, it is about different files.

  • Elite. Besides the positions of the ECHO, it contains the positions of openings played in games where both players have a same elo or superior at 2700. The book contains 9.114 positions that are those that have been given at least twice. They have talked 2.821 games to a total of 227.980 movements that you gave place to 178.134 different positions.   • 2600. This book contains the positions ECHO, more the opening positions played in games where both players have a same elo or superior at 2600. The book contains 68.418 positions that are those that have been given at least twice. They have talked 24.083 games to a total of 1.924.972 movements that you gave place to 1.471.585 different positions. To discharge here.

  • 2500. This book contains the positions ECHO, more the opening positions played in games where both players have a same elo or superior at 2500. The book contains 288.139 positions that are those that have been given at least twice. They have talked 119.634 games to a total of 9.050.939 movements that you gave place to 6.675.621 different positions. To discharge here.

The book of openings is used from the "Slate", but first are that you register it in the lash "Books" of the options of configuration of The Visor, to those that you consents by means of the button.

Database with games.

The Visor can manage a special type of databases with (BDD) chess games. These BDD can include information on all the positions corresponding to all the games of BDD. To use a BDD with games, previously it is necessary to register it by means of the button "Options" located in the superior bar of tools of The Visor. The lash "Books" is selected. The superior part of this window allows to register the books of openings and the inferior one BDD with games, in the field you GO, a short sentence is written that BDD describes and by means of the button, located under the stall you GO, to the right, a file is looked for with extension ".ind" that was when decompressing downloaded BDD. Finally he presses the button "Discharge."

The books of openings and BDD share the extension ".ind", but they are not interchangeable, if one is used in the contrary option, errors will be obtained when using The Visor.

If it is looked for by means of "Approach" and at least a game of BDD completes it, a list of games will be obtained that will substitute the list of the main window. If a "Position" is looked for and this it exists a new window of results he will open up:

Under the list of movements, there is a clever desplegable that allows to select the calculation module to use in the analyses.
